BIOEDU – Innovative teaching for biodiversity

BIOEDU brings current scientific research—such as agrobiodiversity, climate change, animal migration, and the One Health approach—into the classroom, going beyond textbook logic to make biodiversity an open, living issue relevant to the present.

We used existing resources to build Learning Units that align with current teaching. We co-designed them with researchers, educators, and teachers. These became biodiversity-focused courses for middle and high school. We also created two orientation courses for the end of each cycle. These courses are innovative, accessible, and inclusive.

The Learning Units are ready-to-use in the form of editable digital notebooks: accessible, inclusive, and sustainable teaching tools that can be used directly in the classroom or on students’ devices, allowing them to be customised with photos, text, and notes. Each course integrates in-depth articles, summary materials, infographics, concept maps, video interviews with young researchers, interactive quizzes, and collaborative activities accompanied by assessment rubrics for teachers.

BIOEDU demonstrates that classroom research can remain rigorous and meaningful, facilitating dialogue among students, teachers, and the scientific community.

BIOEDU serves as a bridge linking schools and the world of research.

We created BIOEDU for the National Biodiversity Future Centre and developed it together with the Italbiotec Consortium.
